For fine things in life, we introduce Zipang Lounge
Have you set foot in an Irish pub, well i have, but it was under construction at the time....
In my small time research, i have found out that any establishment is unique based on unique culture centred around a casual and friendly atmosphere, hearty food and drink, Irish sports, and at times traditional Irish music.
ION, a humorous writer and master of wits has written some good words about the hottest thing that has happened to Mombasa Road in the recent past, Zipang Lounge
Get carried away
When I travel, and I have been here and there doing this and that, top on my list of to do things is sampling as varied a menu as I can comfortably sample. Exotic meals, local dishes, name it. So I have experienced quite a varied fare.
I have eaten ‘Fufu with green green’ where the accompaniment is escargot, if you catch my drift, at that local foods place inside Accra Mall in Ghana. With soup to die for I must say. Especially with just the right amount of pepe..what we call pepper here. I have had that ‘mixed stew’ for breakfast in Nigeria. Where you never know whether it is fish or chicken or cow skin you will fetch from your plate when you dip your spoon into the plate. Things Fall Apart comes to mind any time I think of Nigeria. That chicken wrapped in banana leaf in Uganda? To die for people. To die for. With that groundnut sauce. Or that ‘katogo’ they have for breakfast.
For good order and
manners, I will probably not mention what I have eaten in China. Or
Thailand. My mother is still alive people and she might get wind of
this..But if it’s being eaten in the place I visit, I will eat. Does the
tail wag the dog or is it the dog that wags the tail? Always wondered..😜😜
Frogs legs by the way, are quite delicious. Just the right amount of butter and...Anyway as I was saying, when your sanctimonious self is done throwing up, my reasoning has always been that if my ‘biological accident’ had happened in any of those places, I would be consuming whatever ‘my relas’ were consuming. But I will still draw a line on monkeys even if I am from Muranga. So, judge me. Or not.
But Steak? Steak is something that has always fascinated me. The person who thought that you could cut a prime cut of an animal and put it on a fire and with the right timing and whichever sauce here and there, bring about heaven, was a genius. Please dont argue. That is a fact.
It ranks up there with the grapes and wine thing. Another story. But genius. Imagine if you could drink Ugali? And feel nice while at it? Genius. Even Jesus agreed.
As I was saying, the best steak I
have had was at ‘Texas’. If you’ve been to Dubai, you have been to
Dubai Mall. It is the biggest mall in the world if you are asking. You
need a guide to know your way around to be honest. We almost fought with
one of my friends as we kept getting lost looking for
Starbucks..Uuuuuuge, as Trump would say.
Or what’s the point really of going to Dubai? Did you go for the desert Safari? Anywho, you may have been to Dubai mall for the water show at 7pm or just to see the mighty Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the whole wide world. ‘Uuuuge’ once again. And if you’ve ever been to Dubai mall and not qued to have dinner at Texas, please polish your passport and sort your visa issues. You need to go back.
Because at Texas, that is where the ‘Steak’ was born. Ask me, I know. If you have an idea of America and wild wild and wide west, you know about them and their cattle. And steak. Now, Texas, is an American franchise that serve steak. Big ‘Uuuge’ Steak. Dont mention the buns-served hot and sweet- or the nuts they serve as appetizers. My goodness!
However, my favouritest meal, if there is such a term, has always been the good old Texan burger.
Because the person who thought that a steak or minced meat could be made into a putty and barbecued then served in a bun plus cheese, bacon and what have you, was the father of the genius I mentioned above. Or what else can we compare it to? Githeri? Tsitwa? Or what do you guys from Western call ‘nguyas’?
And I ate another burger like that today. Honest. You know Nextgen mall? Zipang? The new joint? Ground floor? Please pay a visit,or call them on 0795 500005. You will thank me and my escargot adventures...
Disclaimer: I have not been paid any money, or drinks, to do any promotions of any burger or meals at Zipang. Just buns😁😁
Seriously? You will thank me later. Try it.
